AVCA Top 25 (10/3/17)

The week five AVCA Top 25 coaches poll is out, which you can find here.

For the second week in a row the top six teams are the same. This time Trinity edges in front of Emory as the only change. Wittenberg retains the top spot for the third week in a row but a lot of voters switched over to Colorado College after their impressive weekend with wins over Trinity and Southwestern. The difference between the top 2 spots is only 34 points. As far as first place votes, Wittenberg received 48 with Colorado College getting the other 19. Trinity rose to the third spot followed by Emory, Southwestern and Calvin. And for the third week in a row, the SCAC placed three teams in the top five.

West Region teams in the poll are Colorado College (2), Trinity (3), Southwestern (5), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (8), La Verne (14) and UTD (22). In “Others receiving votes”, we have Pacific Lutheran (50 points), Cal Lutheran (39), UMHB (14) and Whittier (6).

If you would like to compare West Region rankings, you can find mine here. Once again, it seems I’m hating on UTD. (I’m really not…I’m actually quite impressed with what they have overcome this year.)

Some items of note…A big jump into the rankings for Johnson & Wales! They handled MIT earlier this week and this is well deserved. They should move up as the weeks go on. I’m not sure I’ve seen a three way tie for a spot like we have at 17.
