Update:

UMHB / UTD on the big screen. Should be a good one. No sound!

UTD pulls away late in the first set and takes the win. Brinkman back at outside. Too many attack errors for UMHB. ETTBU takes set one over Sul Ross easily.

UMHB takes the second set 25-23. All tied 1-1. Still too many errors for the Cru but UTD not as efficient hitting.

ETBU squeaks by in set two. Up 2-0. UTD rolling over UMHB in set 3.

ETBU with the sweep but Sul Ross again played well in set three.

UMHB drops set three but made it close.

Going 5-sets! Miranda Klein (UMHB) already has a triple-double. Cru have improved their hitting each set.

UMHB with the win. Klein with 18 kills, 20 assists, 22 digs and 5 blocks.

HSU takes the first set in a close one over LETU.

HSU wins 3-1 against LeTourneau. HPU takes set 3 but are down 2-1 to Louisiana College. LC, after winning their first ASC match ever earlier in the week, are looking for their second today.

HPU takes set 4. We are going to a fifth set!

Breakup the Wildcats! Louisiana College takes the fifth set and get their 2nd consecutive ASC victory. Great run for one of the newest programs in DIII.

ETBU with the mild upset early as they take set one over McMurry easily.

McMurry battles back to take set two. All tied at 1-1. McMurry up 2-1 now.

UTD up 1-0 and leading in the second set. UTD with the sweep.

ETBU gave McMurry everything it wanted but McMurry wins 3-2.

Blah! Chicago beat Trinity 3-1. Chicago is a good team…I didn’t realize they were that good. TLU was swept in that same tournament. Not a good start for the West.

Just back from dinner and saw the Trinity / IWU result. Trinity wins the first two sets and then drop the next 3 all by 2 points. Ouch. Trinity hit 0.312 for the match and still lost?!?

Looks like some close matches on the west coast. Going to bed late it seems.

Caltech is hanging with Cal Lutheran. Interesting. Whittier is up 1-0 on Chapman and leading in the second set. This result really changes the dynamics in the region. Stay tuned. L&C and Puget Sound are 1-1 as are GFU and Whitworth.

Some results are in below. Whittier did end up sweeping Chapman. With Chapman’s weaker schedule, this was a great chance to show they belonged in the Top 8 in the west. As it turned out, Whittier made a statement.

Tough loss for GFU as they lose in 5 sets to Whitworth.

Random Thoughts:

What is the deal Oxy? You are the only SCIAC school that doesn’t video or provide live stats to your matches? (Note – Looks like Pomona-Pitzer came through with the broadcast…thanks!)

The UT-Dallas / UMHB match will pretty much tell us who gets ranked ahead once the West RAC rankings come out. They will not meet again until the ASC Tournament.

Trinity and TLU are out at the IWU Tournament. IWU fell on hard times the previous week and really need to do well. Chicago is there and they are very good.

In the NWC, I like the Whitworth / George Fox match. GFU struggled on the road but get the Pirates at home. In my preseason preview, I had GFU finishing ahead of Whitworth.

In the SCIAC, I like the Chapman / Whittier match. Both teams need this. Chapman to prove they are for real. Whittier to prove they are better than they have shown.
