Not good for the West early. Turnaround coming.

Dang! All on you UMHB.

Playing catch-up. Family trumps volleyball. Or, at least, that’s what I’ve been told. I don’t see it.

I would have liked to have seen the IWU / WUSTL match. IWU is playing really well right now.

RIT made a run at it. CMU with the comeback in that one. CMU is a team that probably loses in the first round in a “normal” regional. In this one, they have a chance to make the Elite 8.

Thomas More is another team playing at a high level right now. Hit 0.272 against CNU today.

The king is dead. Well done Eau Claire.

Colorado College just hasn’t looked right of late. I mean they are really good but not national champion level. Emory with the sweep.

Berry and UMHB are tied 1-1. Live Stats has been a real problem at this location. Announcers are very invested into Berry. I guess that’s to be expected.

JWU receives their second bye and will play in the final tomorrow.

Morris is trying to shock the world for a second time. Lead 1-0.

Juniata up 2-0. Babson up 2-0 and another site with poor Live Stats reporting.

Ithaca is up 2-0. Both matches have been close. Morris is now up 2-0. I really liked St. Ben going in and this is a bit shocking to me.

UMHB takes the third set and now lead Berry 2-1. Hey UMHB parents! You’ve got great posters but why don’t you write “D3VbWest.Com” on the back of them so the camera picks them up. Help a friend out.

Berry announcer, “Yes it does suck.” Love it!

Juniata with the sweep. Their final tomorrow against Thomas More will be one of the better one’s of the entire tournament.

Babson with the sweep. Will play Bowdoin in their final.

What a match! UMHB wins 3-1 taking the fourth set 28-26. Berry had 4 set points starting at 24-20 and then had one more at 25-24. Miranda Klein (6’0″) saved a pass at 25-24 on the net that most setters aren’t tall enough to get. Jenna Gillean had 17 kills and served during their final run to tie set 4 at the end.

St. Ben has stormed back and they are now in a 5th set!

Chicago wins the first set on Aurora. Ithaca with the sweep and they will play CMU in the final tomorrow. Aurora wins the second and they are tied 1-1.

“Eye of the Tiger” should be banned.

Following a timeout, down 11-13 but serving and the short serve attempt doesn’t come close to clearing the net. Not a great call there. Morris will then drop the next point and lose in 5-sets after being up 2-0. Nice run by Morris. St. Ben will play UW-Eau Claire in a really good final tomorrow.

Aurora gets a 5-set win over Chicago. Aurora’s Katie Vondra had 18 kills.

Calvin leads Wittenberg 2-1 but Wittenberg leads big in the fourth. This is going to go to 5-sets. And it does!

Amazing match. Amazing 5th set. Great crowd. Calvin wins the fifth set 16-14 and the match. The last two points were the result of free balls that didn’t clear the net.

Random Thoughts:

Calvin / Wittenberg in the final and it’s a final that could easily be for the national championship. Give me Calvin at home here.

West Region teams didn’t fare well in Chicago yesterday. I think IWU is playing as good as anyone in the country right now. I’ll take them over WUSTL (a team before the season that I had as one of three that could win it all). Chicago is rolling and I think they take Aurora out tomorrow.

In the Ithaca region give me Carnegie Mellon and Ithaca. Ithaca is refreshed after getting a bye yesterday.

I got to watch a little of the Thomas More match yesterday and they looked really strong. They are my pick over CNU. Mary Washington will put up a fight and has a chance in this one but give me Juniata.

The CMS / UW-Eau Claire match may be one of the better second round clashes in a long time. I have to go with CMS here but really this is a toss up. St. Benedict should take down Minn-Morris but, again, this is a really deep regional.

Give me JWU and Wesleyan in the JWU Regional.

Bowdoin and Babson in the “Should have been CMS Regional”. Wellesley beat Babson earlier in the year but home court makes a difference here.

Two great matches in the Berry Regional. I think Emory takes down Colorado College but I hope I’m wrong. If the Tigers can improve their hitting then it changes things for me but they struggled against W&L yesterday. Berry at home is a tough match-up. I’ll still take UMHB but this should be a tight match throughout.
